This washstand was constructed in Newfoundland in a time (?1900s) when milled wood was hard to come by. Instead, Newfoundlanders made their own furniture out of recycled crates.

This one is especially interesting since the address of the shipping crates is visible inside as St. John's, tying nicely to the surroundings.

The original white paint has been stripped, and instead the wood is lightly stained and varnished for a warm and attractive finish. Casters make moving around room easy.

Since people don't wash much anymore, the stand has been modifed to be used as an entertainment center. The TV set is braced nicely by the rear stand when rolling the unit around. The rear of the washstand has been updated with an outlet for plugs and a brass exhaust vent for heat from electronic components. Remote controls, videogame controllers, etc can be stored in the drawer.
