The frame is ornate and carved with intricate floral designs.

The old couch material was removed down to the frame and rebuilt by the craftspeople in 'European Upholstery'. New foam was installed, a neutral microfibre upholstery sewn, and finished with an attractive edging trim, and correct buttons on the cushion back.

All sides of the couch are finished, allowing it to be placed anywhere in a room or office.

This particular couch was attributed to the governor general's official residence in St. John's, Newfoundland. Apparently there was an auction in the 1920s or 1930s, when the furniture was being changed.
